Community Theatre get noticed at 2010 Perry Awards Nomination meeting
South Amboy, NJ (July 31, 2010) – The 37th Annual New Jersey Association of Community Theaters' ”Perry” Award nominations were announced at the South Amboy Middle HS on Saturday.
The event started with a general meeting where NJACT Board members spoke about the past year and coming changes. President Amy Levine welcomed the group and pointing out some of the new member theaters that were in attendance. She proceeded to thank the Herndandez Theater Workshop and Mecca Entertainment for hosting the event and the members of the South Amboy city council and South Amboy board of education for their support.
This season NJACT members reviewed 224 shows - a sure sign that community theater is thriving in New Jersey. One of the changes for this year was the implementation of new reviewer forms with new category names and weighted scoring. Levine also stressed the importance of theaters filling out the tech sheets to help reviewers in filling out their reviews. She also discussed the changes to the annual show remounts review policy. Theaters that produce the same show annually, such as "A Christmas Carol," will be reviewed every 2 years.
The Awards Ceremony will be on September 19th at the Double Tree Hotel in Somerset New Jersey. Tickets will be $65.00 per person. If you are purchasing a full table you need to include the full payment in with your request. Checks should be made payable to "NJ Perry Awards". You can download the ticket order forms here. If you are an NJACT member and are intersted in being a presenter please email PJ Campacci with your information.
Marie Fiorello, the North Jersey Liaison, then spoke about upcoming training in both north and south Jersey. She congratulated the hard work of the NJACT member reviewers and their dedication in getting the paperwork in on time.
The next reviewer training session will be on August 18th at 7:30pm at the Kelsey Theater in West Windsor, NJ with another session tentativly set for October in the South Amboy area.
Patrick Starega, Vice President of NJACT, discussed the importance of posting your shows on the NJACT Website early. He reminded the members that the system will hold their posting until 45 days before they open and then release it for reviewers to sign up. He then discussed some of the changes to this years gala. Six years ago NJACT began to highlight Choreographers at the opening of the 2nd act of the Perry Awards. This year we will continue the tradition of highlighting with a Fashion Show that will include the nominees in the category of Outstanding Costume Design depicting a costume of the nominee's choice from their show. This will prove enlightening as well as entertaining. In the interest of fairness, NJACT would like to share the wealth by giving an opportunity to the costumers who work long and hard on their creations and coordination for the many productions in NJ Community Theatres throughout the year.
Patrick then announced the The Men of NJACT Calendar and the 12 men choosen to grace it pages.

Nominees in 33 competitive categories for the NJACT 37th Annual “Perry“ Awards were determined by NJACT from reviews of over 224 shows submitted by member theater companies for Perry Award consideration.
The NJACT Perry awards are bestowed annually on community theatre contributors for distinguished achievement. The Perry Awards are named in honor of William Perry Morgan, a gifted director, actor, composer, and musician who was once a driving force in New Jersey Community Theater. During his time in New Jersey, Perry and several of his close colleagues came to the realization that there was a need to recognize the many great accomplishments of their fellow thespians, who gave so freely of their talents to enrich the lives of theater patrons in New Jersey.
