On April 18th, 2009, NJACT formed a committee to review the Perry Award Review Process. Created to give the theater community a greater voice in how Perry Award honorees are selected, the committee gathered for a five-hour meeting, which led to some very productive debate on key issues. The committee discussed everything from how reviews are scheduled, to review criteria for the various award categories, to award eligibility policies, and much more.
Prior to the meeting, feedback was solicited from across the theater community. It was gathered from a number of sources including the 2008 year-end customer satisfaction survey, as well as emails and phone calls exchanged with various theater community leaders. That feedback was compiled and distributed to the committee prior to the meeting. The committee took that feedback, their own ideas, and a review of the current process manual and distilled it all down.
In the end, the committee submitted a list of 21 separate recommendations to the NJACT Board. The board met for a special meeting in May and voted to adopt many of the committee's recommendations. All recommendations adopted by the NJACT board will to go into effect on July 1, 2009.
12 of the 13 committee members were present for the April 18 meeting. The committee consisted of the following people:
